Subir Dhar, Professor & former Head, Dept. of English & currently Director, School of Languages and Culture, Faculty of Arts, RBU, teaches Theory, English and New English Literatures. He is a critic and translator and his research papers writings, and translations have been published in journals of distinction In India and abroad. A recipient of the Charles Wallace Trust grant, he has pursued research beyond his Ph.D. work at the Fitzwilliam College (Cambridge), the Tate Gallery (UK), and the University of Denver (USA) International Conferences attended by him as a paper-presenter include ones held at Corpus Christi College, Oxford, and the Ohio State University (USA). At the National level, he has delivered talks, key-note addresses, and UGC Refresher Course lectures in Universities and institutions located in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Jharkhand, Bihar, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Orissa, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, etc. He has served and is at present serving on various Universities as an External Expert on Boards of Research and Studies. He has edited two volumes of the Journal of the Dept. of English, RBU and is presently the Editor of the Journal of the SOLC, RBU. His other publications include Burning Bright: William Blake and the Poetry of Imagination and De-Scribings : Semiotics, Literature, Cultural Studies and the edited volumes Romancing the Strange: The Fiction of Kunal Basu, Rabindranath Tagore: New Languages in Ten Languages, and Colonial and Postcolonial Shakespeares. He is currently working on a number of research papers due to be published, on a volume of Tagore translations, and on a projected book on Locational Hermeneutics.
Outside RBU, Prof. Dhar is also the Hony. General Secretary of the Shakespeare Society of Eastern India.
